Screened out

Crime Screens coming to Blackheath on Monday
Here’s a sneak preview of the crime screens coming to Blackheath on Monday. Photo by @Nicole_Nation in Lewisham. That is some seriously tacky looking screenage. I really hope the police aren’t paying promogroup for those terrible looking screens. Nice to see private enterprise working hand in hand with the police.

Blackheath hit and run: police asking for witnesses

As reported by many people yesterday, there was a car crash at the junction of Stratheden Road and Charlton Road around Blackheath Standard yesterday, resulting in the death of an elderly lady. An eye-witness emailed me with this info:

Two cars were chasing each other like lunatics and going at very fast speed, I reckon about 90mph. They both nearly hit my car on the Charlton Road before the first one went out of control and crashed into the pedestrian traffic island opposite the Old Dover Road (near M&S)

The really awful thing is that they collided head on with a pedestrian who was killed outright. She wouldn’t have stood a chance at the speed the car was going. It was so fast, that the car took most of the concrete and railings with it.

Amazingly, the driver and passenger weren’t injured but then got out of the car and tried to run away. At least one of them was chased and caught by some builders in the area.

I know the police are keen to take more witness statements of anybody who saw what happened. They really want to get a conviction since this poor pedestrian died so I wondered if you would mind publicising this.

If you know anything, you can call 0300 123 1212 to get through to Greenwich Police.

Channel 4 Dispatches on the Blackheath Climate Camp

The usually excellent Dispatches series goes for a cheesy, CSI-style documentary, written in that tedious breathless style, suggesting that something very violent is about to happen, but then nothing does…

Bits about Blackheath at 2 minutes 43 seconds in.

Guardian review of the programme here. Angry activist review here.

Less of a Cornish Rebellion than a Welsh Outsourcing

From WalesOnline news:

Welsh cops have been drafted into London to deal with up to 3,000 environmental protesters.
Nearly 30 officers from North Wales Police were sent to the Climate Camp at Blackheath in east London, overlooking the capital’s Docklands and Canary Wharf, earlier this week.

Second smash in one day

Just wandering back from taking Mrs Bugle down to the station for a lovely night shift at 11.30pm, when I heard a huge smashing noise.  As I walked back up the steps, it seemed that a dark car was stationary across the road, having crashed into a lamp post next to the Booze Busters newsagents.

Out of nowhere a police car appeared – it must have been there within two minutes of the crash.  It didn’t look particularly serious, but it was hard to tell in the dark, and the police were already there.

Scary though – it just shows how you can never tell what will happen…

What a pane…

Pane of glass, police blocking the traffic on the road, blackheath
Loads of police swarming around Blackheath village at 9am this morning. It seems as though a pane of glass was being unloaded from a truck when something went wrong, and it shattered all over the road and pavement, just next to Tuck’s corner.
